Ebook About
God Cares More About How You Eat than What You Eat Christians should have their heads on straight about food—but too often our eating is complicated by burdens and rules, by diets and dependencies. So how can we keep a spiritually healthy view of what we eat? Should Christians stop eating white sugar? Does the Bible ask us to go paleo? Most questions about food aren’t really about nutrition but about how we understand God. In Broken Bread, Christian Book Award–winner Tilly Dillehay challenges us to abandon the concept of good and bad foods and instead offers a way to… celebrate food without obsessionmake healthy choices without bondage to rulesfeed our families without feeling frazzledfind satisfaction without using food as an emotional crutch This isn’t another diet book. You won’t find any system or plan for eating but rather a joyful call to develop a vision of Christ that informs the way you eat. Take delight in food again, and discover a feast for today that whispers of the eternal feast to come.

Book Broken Bread: How to Stop Using Food and Fear to Fill Spiritual Hunger Review :

I'm always interested in reading more about what God's word says about food/nutrition and how to navigate these culturally-confusing waters so I may have had high hopes for this book. But found the author gives too many generalizations and oftentimes contradicts herself. Should you point out that it's embarrassing for a woman to bring her own food to an event (not knowing the reason behind that) while at the same time recommending that Christians be patient with those who have dietary restrictions? And while there are people that jump on every diet fad and/or bandwagon for vain reasons, I feel like there are many who have found some kind of relief through diet and that's not discussed nearly enough to counter the author's dislike or disapproval toward those who just make diet edits for superficial reasons. Yes, we will all die, and yes we can't control the timing of our death. But if avoiding some foods helps your body heal and/or feel better so that you are better able to serve the Lord, your family, others, etc., then there is no reason to need to justify those decisions to others or feel guilty for making the best choices for your health. This book does give a good overview of the polar opposites in which Christians often swing (gluttony vs. apathy) but needs to do better in allowing for Christian liberty based upon individual conscience to make the best health/dietary decisions for each person. Most books need to do better in this area.
This book was such a joy to read! I don’t know of any other book written for Christians that unpacks our food idolatries and goes deep to the root of the problems with our attitude towards food like this book does. It’s filling a void in Christian literature and I found it so convicting and helpful. It gets into the nuances of diet culture and the four “food poles,” asceticism, gluttony, snobbery, and apathy. It talks about how God cares far more about how we eat than He cares about what we eat. As always, the state of our hearts is His focus. It touches on how to eat to the glory of God and to the encouragement of our brothers and sisters. It talks about fasting and alcohol.I found it extremely compelling and helpful, encouraging and eye opening. And the authors writing style is effortless and delightful. I couldn’t put it down honestly.
